now THIS is embarrassing

this was my bedroom, circa...i'm gonna say 1986. holy moly. what's interesting to me is the clear evidence of the burgeoning OCD even then. just check out how psychotically i spaced out the michael j. fox pinups from 16 magazine (or tiger beat or bop or what have you), which are all the exact same size. eek.

i need to find pics of my room when i discovered punk rock and other good music, just to try to get back my indie credibility. :/ hahahahaha. but i love this picture. i obviously loved my room so much that i took a picture of it. on my kodak disc camera, no doubt.

vacation, all i ever wanted...vacation had to get away...

this is the first day of my mini-vacation, and i wake up at 4:30 am. typical.

image courtesy of bighappyfunhouse. which i constantly mention as my favorite site ever.

tonight i am going to see the police. sometime within the next 4 days chris and i are going to the beach one day, and amusement park another day, and hopefully new hope another day. also probably planting flowers and/or mulching. woo! then i go back to work for about 1 hour on wednesday, and i get to leave to oversee a photoshoot. WOOO! i have to work all day thursday (BOOO!), BUT i only have 1/2 day friday, because that is white stripes day!!! WOOO! i actually took the 1/2 day in case they do some of that crazy surprise show action in the states like they just did in canada. if i missed seeing them on a bus or in a bowling alley or at the old folks home down the street or something because i was AT WORK, well...that would NOT be good. or maybe we'll just go down there early and drink white stripes-themed martinis all afternoon! actually, i'd like to see the simpsons movie , since it comes out that day.

anyway...

i didn't have a real one either...i had a knockoff when i was in 5th grade. it was red and i put a michael jackson button in it.

some of you might wonder what i did with my life before 2005, when i started this blog. well, wonder no more!! most of the pictures are gone, but the rest of the silliness is still there.

i kind of liked re-reading august '02, for a number of reasons. a lot of crazy stuff happened, and would you just LOOK at those hideous web pages!! what was i thinking?!? hahaha. man, i wish all the images were still there...

i just don't know what to do with myself.

i am bored and restless, so i made south park characters of me and chris. note the ever-present coffee and cigarette on me (i'm trying to do better, but i smoked like a fiend today), and the ever-present stubble on chris.

amy sedaris' amazon list for entertaining. the list itself is, of course, entertaining.

grey gardens blog! if you've never seen the original film, i highly recommend that you do. it's crazy.

regular movies done up with grindhouse-style posters.

pulp muppets!

sort-of related: sad kermit. click on "audio" and listen. and weep.

whoah. sarah jessica parker's got some jacked-up feet. see, this is why i wear flats. wear 4" heels and you get 80-year old woman's feet.

if you ever wondered how much celebrity photos get retouched...wonder no more. (click on "portfolio.")

awww. nick drake is my friend, too!

ny times book review of the latest nirvana biography. (registration required.)

this is funny. and this cat looks like a fatter version of gertie.

board games based on tv shows. i had "dukes of hazzard" and "family feud." no one would EVER play "family feud" with me, and it was my favorite. i would always demand to be richard dawson, and i'd be all, "LET'S PLAY THE FEUD!!!" and i would kiss the players on the cheek and make an obnoxious buzzing sound when they got an answer wrong. hmmm, it's just become totally obvious why no one would play with me now...

awwwwwww!

so cute! i like animals, as kenny would say.

herschell gordon lewis interview.

most awkward celebrity interviews.

mega super mammoth mp3 blog list! download away, people!

i hate myself.

who needs the kwik-e-mart? i dooooooooooooooo...

i found a great online bead store through the wonders of myspace...if you are a beader, check them out. the prices are reasonable, shipping is cheap, and the peeps that run it are really nice. :)

baked ziti. my friend isaiah sent me an mp3 from this site of the jingle for this weird NJ store from the 80's called "ideal" that i am obsessed with. turns out this guy has a decent blog. definitely watch those "i heart huckabees" outtakes if you haven't heard about them already. i had no idea that lily tomlin was such a pottymouth! this is not what i expect from the incredible shrinking woman!

and finally...anyone else remember the Dregs of Humanity? i bet mark and margy will, if anyone.

i love youtube, part 2.

i love youtube.

only philly people who were teenagers in the 80's will truly appreciate this. be sure to check out the guy in the white belly shirt and sunglasses, bopping up and down in between 2 girls right before they show the picture of michael jackson. that guy's name is bob catalano, and i was totally in love with him. in middle school i wrote him a fan letter and he TOTALLY WROTE ME BACK. he was 18 and from jersey and had a crazy gravely voice and was totally obsessed with wham! ugggghhhh...

"ruhhr-juhhrr"

i woke up this morning with the chorus of "day old blues" by kings of leon in my head, and it just won't go away! not that it's a bad thing...

go justin theroux! woo! i do enjoy that justin theroux.

here's some good bowie stuff to groove on this morning. i am all about bowie right now.

holy crap! i don't care how old they are and how hideous robert plant looks, i am THERE. so, so very there.

"blades of glory" pics! i really can't wait for this one.

the origins of "the rural juror." that show is funny as hell.

1979 sears wishbook. i know i've posted this link before, but it is just so wonderful that it deserves a second looksie.

"wait--for--the beep...you gotta leave your name, you gotta leave your number..."

in case you missed it in the comments of one of my posts, check out this wendy's training video. it's totally incredible. (link via the mighty flatlander)

"nobody's hooooomme...nobody's hoooooooome." you will totally remember this. (thanks, blast-off girl!)

did anyone catch the project runway reunion show last night? keith michael is just SUCH an ass! ugh. what a baby. anyway, i thought it was a great show. but i just can't stand it; they are making us wait 2 weeks to find out who won?!? ugh. i'll say it again, i am TEAM JEFFREY ALL THE WAY, baby. even if he let rip the biggest fart ever, even grossing out the most vile man whom ever walked the earth. (vincent--he probably "got off" by the whole thing. heh.) and as far as laura accusing jeffrey of cheating...i think she's just desperate because all she has in life is her 26,000 children, plus she's hugely pregnant. she probably got overwhelmed trying to get her collection together, and was pissed because jeffrey was ready for fashion week and she wasn't. that is what i choose to believe.

i'm gonna live forever

kenny just said, "we should pretend that we go to that 'fame' school, and dance around all day."

so we danced for a minute...i did a flying leap, and then we both did "jazz hands" at the exact same time, and then we laughed hysterically.

ahhhhh, sometimes i love this job.

back in the summer of '85

this link spotlights some hits from the summer of 1985. i remember that summer very clearly. i was 12 years old, and i was really, REALLY starting to get obsessed with music. my best friend was this girl named alison that lived across the street from my grandmother, so we saw each other practically every single day that summer. we taped millions of songs off the radio. we bought every 45 that ever came out, it seemed. we bought magazines that had nothing but song lyrics in it. we watched videos like crazy. we would crank up these records and sing at the top of our lungs. my parents also FINALLY bought a VCR that summer, so i rented every music-related video out there.

alison and i laughed and laughed about everything. we really had fun. we also were into boys and "general hospital" and all that other pre-teen crap, but the music is what i remember the most. i was REALLY REALLY into madonna. TOTALLY. i loved the police and was sad that they broke up. i was still very much into prince. and i loved wham! LOVED LOVED LOVED wham! alison's favorite bands were culture club and duran duran. i also know she had every hall and oates album ever released, but by '85 she may have moved on. i had yet to discover the likes of the cure, the psychedelic furs, etc. that came a few short years later. i think i started to get a clue in maybe late '86 or early '87.

my favorite song on that entertainment weekly guy's list? "shout" by tears for fears. i flippin' LOVE that song. man, i still love tears for fears.

refresh your memory with wikipedia's entry for the music of 1985. i love wikipedia!

one question: where is "west end girls" by the pet shop boys?!?

i don't really know why i remember that particular summer so vividly...but i do. every morning i would watch an hour of "gidget" reruns, then some game shows. later i'd ride my bike over to alison's, and we'd hang out. then we'd faithfully watch "gh" at 3, and "dancin' on air" at 4. (that was a local dance show that got syndicated as "dance party usa" the next year. we were totally obsessed with that, too...)

and, in case you were wondering, we had some big falling out when i was a freshman in high school over the fact that i met some new friends, and she never talked to me again. typical. :/

completely unrelated: how to make a bra purse. you can put your duct tape wallet in it!

coreys, coreys everywhere...

why is myspace down all the time lately? i never realized how pathetically addicted i am until it's taken away from me...

the politically incorrect alphabet.

this corey feldman fellow never ceases to crack me up. even just seeing his picture makes me laugh. i watched "the lost boys" for the first time in years the other night (i have seen it many times in my younger days) and i just can't believe those freakin' coreys! corey haim is really, REALLY awful. worse than feldman. (who was obviously trying to pull off some stallone/"rambo"-type of method acting thing. BAD.)

haim's fashions in the movie were completely laughable, which was especially funny because i think he was supposed to be this hip, stylin' type of character. in one scene he was wearing this tight red t-shirt that said 'born to shop" and a turquoise baggy jacket with puffy shoulders...highlights placed in his hair just so...HA! plus, he's a terrible actor. feldman, too. just horrible. feldman was actually really good in "stand by me." pleh. oh, and haim was good in "lucas." i really like both of those movies.

now this guy, on the other hand...this guy i liked.

anyway, i used to think that "lost boys" was the coolest movie ever, with the coolest music ever. i even begged our local video store to give me the big poster they had in the window when they were done with it. it was HUGE. i saw it in the theater with my friend missy, whose mom wouldn't let her see it because it was rated R, but we went anyway. i remember that scene when The Haim shot the one vampire with a bow & arrow into the stereo, and everyone in the audience cheered, as if it was the greatest thing they'd ever seen. it's really not that cool.
