very busy today

but not too busy to share this, this, and this. and this. oh hell, and this too. (ha, nice sketch) UPDATE: chris said the sketch looked like davey and goliath's dad in blackface, and i couldn't agree more.

i just don't know what to do with myself.

i am bored and restless, so i made south park characters of me and chris. note the ever-present coffee and cigarette on me (i'm trying to do better, but i smoked like a fiend today), and the ever-present stubble on chris.

amy sedaris' amazon list for entertaining. the list itself is, of course, entertaining.

grey gardens blog! if you've never seen the original film, i highly recommend that you do. it's crazy.

regular movies done up with grindhouse-style posters.

pulp muppets!

sort-of related: sad kermit. click on "audio" and listen. and weep.

whoah. sarah jessica parker's got some jacked-up feet. see, this is why i wear flats. wear 4" heels and you get 80-year old woman's feet.

if you ever wondered how much celebrity photos get retouched...wonder no more. (click on "portfolio.")

awww. nick drake is my friend, too!

ny times book review of the latest nirvana biography. (registration required.)

this is funny. and this cat looks like a fatter version of gertie.

board games based on tv shows. i had "dukes of hazzard" and "family feud." no one would EVER play "family feud" with me, and it was my favorite. i would always demand to be richard dawson, and i'd be all, "LET'S PLAY THE FEUD!!!" and i would kiss the players on the cheek and make an obnoxious buzzing sound when they got an answer wrong. hmmm, it's just become totally obvious why no one would play with me now...

i wanna eat your brains and gain your knowledge

i saw "grindhouse" again today. i thought "death proof" was definitely better the second time around. i was way, way into it. f the naysayers, they just don't get it. but i definitely fall into the "fanboy" category every single article mentions (even though i am not, in fact, a boy). bah, who cares. i love my QT and always will.

i love this photo.

the tarantino archives got hacked or the site crashed or something. i feel bad. it was a really great site, The Man Himself even granted an interview to the guy who runs it, and admitted that he checked the site often to check out "the temperature" of what his fans where thinking about things. definitely a great QT site.

GRINDHOUSE

run, do not walk, to the theater and see this. it's just so great; i had so much fun. i will most definitely be seeing this again while it's still in theaters. "planet terror" is really, really goopy and disgusting with wonderfully cheesy dialogue and about 10 subplots and some totally hilarious moments (especially the "missing reel"). "death proof" has that classic tarantino dialogue, but also is successful at being a movie that takes forever to get started (as many of those 70's films he pays homage to are apt to do) with seriously one of the best car chases ever filmed. and the ending was awesome. kurt russell kicked ass. those chicks kicked ass. the whole experience kicked ass. the fake trailers are really, really, really great, too. i think my favorite was "don't," because it made me laugh hysterically (and i found out later that it was narrated by will arnett). i'm also sure you will enjoy "thanksgiving," directed by eli roth. warning: not safe for work. it may not be safe for most people anywhere. :)

again: see this in the theater; don't wait for it to come out on dvd. the fun cinema experience it what it's all about.

today is raconteurs day!

i'm working a 1/2 day and then hot-footin' it up to new yawk city for the show. it's going to be a beautiful day; sunny and a high of 70. huzzah! i will post a full recap tomorrow, as i took the whole day off work. ahhhh, life rules!

and...here are the last statements of people that were executed in texas from 1982 - 2006. i wonder if the other states that allow the death penalty have such a loooooong list...?

holy wow!

i just saw my friend mark on the local news, talking about pluto not being a planet anymore. and why was he talking about it? because he is the planetarium director at the museum! go mark!!

so, last night was the dylan show, and it rocked. we got right down front, (chris' parents were total troopers!) the set list was great ("lenny bruce"!!! what?!?!? i love you, bob.) and "not dark yet" brought tears to my eyes. i've cried at many a dylan show for many a different reason...lots of times, with bob, a song you have heard a million times takes on a really different and personal meaning if heard at the right time. and i don't know, that's what happened. i was just totally moved. and bob was in a GREAT mood, be-boppin' around that keyboard and smiling and making silly faces. AWESOME.

by the way, everyone needs to check out junior brown. that man is out of control in a really great way. LOVED HIM. i am really looking forward to seeing him again next week in upstate ny. i totally dug him.

in other "bob dylan is awesome" news, guess who's opening for him in philly in november?

THE FREAKING RACONTEURS. i love this man. seriously. i love him. ironically, after the show last night, chris and i went out for a few drinks and we started talking about our "lists," meaning 3 famous people we are totally allowed to bang if we ever got the chance. my top two? bob dylan and jack white. seriously, if quentin tarantino shows up at this philly gig, chris is SERIOUSLY IN TROUBLE.

"never rub another man's rhubarb."

that is one line from "batman" that just never made it into the pop culture lexicon. we're watching it right now for the first time in years and years, and there are so many one-liners that are etched into our brains...i forgot what an insane big deal that movie was when it came out. by the way, my favorite batman is christian bale.

related?

related? goths like bats...

i just discovered that the guy in the wheelchair who answers the trivia question for free coffee in "ghost world" is crispin glover's dad!

i also found these pictures of eric stoltz in the scenes he filmed when he was the original star of "back to the future." man, i was so in love with michael j. fox back then. i thought he was the coolest. but eric looks way cooler to me now, in retrospect...more 80's alternative-guy.

i watched this today. it's about VD. specifically, syphillis.

here's a list of films shown on usa: up all night. i watched it faithfully every weekend as a youth.

and here's a list of films quentin tarantino has shown at the qt film fests in austin. y'all just need to cut and paste the titles from those 2 lists and put 'em in your netflix queue. you'll have a great couple of months ahead of you!

okay, would you just look at this guy?!? i mean, WOW, i wish i could be as hip as this guy! actually, at least he's unique. most everybody on those hipster party sites look exactly the same. like, they need a shot of penicillin and a square meal.

eek!

so busy! hopefully i will have time to post some good things later...like how we tried to go see "hostel" over the weekend but it was sold out, so we went home and watched "the devil's rejects" instead, and how we were kinda disappointed in it. and i want to talk about how it's weird that roger ebert gave it 3 stars (i think i would've given it 2, maybe 2 1/2), and how it's weirder still that ebert didn't seem to know who sid haig was and had to look him up on the internet to see what he really looks like without all that clown makeup...he was all smug in his review about his groucho marx knowledge, and he doesn't even know that sid haig was in anything other than "jackie brown?!?!" i mean come ON! oh, and i want to talk about how the QT likes the drunk iceland babes.

yes, i will talk about all that stuff later, when i have time. :)

"black samurai"...

...is one of the best/worst movies i've seen in a long time. i thoroughly enjoyed it in all of its good/bad wonder. the editing was just DREADFUL! but the music was pretty good.

and it's also a drink!

after "black samurai" we watched "jackie brown," which made me want to move it back into my top 15 movies and out of honorable mention. but then i remembered that quentin is dating shar jackson, so i decided not to, just to be that way. i mean, what is QT doing with federline's baby's mama?! oh, i guess that's mean, and uncalled for. we've all dated losers, haven't we? kevin is shar's loser, and maybe quentin is her keeper. but, he's also getting into NASCAR now. so odd!
