this made me laugh for like 5 minutes

from "mildly interesing 80's print ads." i totally used to eat these, and i totally used to watch wrestling with my pappy when i was young. or, as he called it, "rassling." he watched it his whole life, and would sit and laugh and laugh...he was so happy when i got into it. in my day, the big wrestlers were greg "the hammer" valentine, nikolai volkoff, "ravishing" rick rude, "hacksaw" jim duggan, jake "the snake" roberts...erm...ummmm, i'll stop now. i'm ashamed of myself. but i did and still do think after seeing that reality show that hulk hogan was a freaky douchebag.

looking up all those images of the wrestlers just now made me laugh for another 5 minutes. yay!

Those 80's ads rock the house! I believe that future generations will rightly look upon the 80's as a sort of Golden Age--which is kind of scary and maybe sad too.

We had the best toys, the best drum machines, and the best junk foods. So what if the nuclear family was in a process of meltdown?--we had countless distractions in the form of video games, toys and designer clothing lines!

I guss it's all just nostalgia. Long live Jake the Snake!

right on, my man. we also invented the mix tape, whch is a true artform that i deeply miss. decorating the cover, putting silly things between songs, sitting there with a calculator so you could make sure all the songs fit on one side, each tape having a theme...or maybe that was just me. *shrugs*

we also had the best cereals, the best cartoons, and the best diet crazes.

In my day, the wrestlers were that Volkov dude you mention, Hulk Hogan, Junkyard Dog, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Andre the Giant... I had the action figures and the accompanying wrestling ring.

These days, wrestling is like soft porn meets Fight Club vs. Days of Our Lives or something.

Used to watch those guys on a Saturday afternoon, and then have Chinese food with my mother and grandparents.

Man... I so wish I was a kid again, minus all the dramas I had.

And while we're talking 80s: Miami Vice. THAT was the show to beat all shows. Interesting to see what Michael Mann's gonna do with it next year.

I've seen bits of it, yeah. :-) But never the whole thing.

KING KONG BUNDY. Another wrestler. I forgot to mention him, and feel like it would be remiss to leave him out. The Kongster.
