There's always something cooking and nothing in the pot

so, i do these monthly artsy-crafty workshops with kids once a month at the museum in my city. the next one coming up is on october 9th, which i immediately recognized as john lennon's birthday. ahhhh, i thought. i'll do a john lennon project! i even told some parents that i would be doing that, and they got so excited.

i am totally shocked that i cannot find a single john-realted art project on the internet. nothing, nada, zip, zilch! and i just can't think of anything cool to do. so i am taking suggestions. i was thinking of having kids draw something in that john style, and we could listen to his music the whole time, but...meh. there's gotta be a better idea that. help me!!

Why don't you do a John and Yoko art project, and introduce the kids to the wild and wacky world of conceptual art.?

I missed the Yoko show when it came to my town, but I did get to see the "wish tree" that she constructed...people were encouraged to write down their wishes on pieces of paper and hang them from the tree, and everyone could read everyone else's wishes.

Not everyone likes Yoko, but it was a nice piece.

You could also make hommade snow globes.

have each of your kids interpret significant parts of john's life in their own favorite medium, and add them up at the end to make a visual timeline with his audio accompanyment

or just, yeah, the fluxus art and piano dropping (Al Hansen)

wheee, keep 'em comin! somehow i think the piano drop would be a bit difficult to pull off, financially and logistically speaking, but you get the gold star of the day just for mentioning that and al. :) i actually thought of touching upon the whole fluxus thing for the project via yoko, but then i thought, "it's not YOKO'S birthday, it's john's!"

the wish tree is good, too. i like yoko, i don't get why people hate her so much. i guess for "breeaking up the beatles," but that is just so stupid.

anyway, i love these ideas. i also thought of the kids making big posters with black magic marker, ala the bed-in, and have it say their own peaceful message. that'd be fun, too.

excellent. i totally forgot that i have all the yellow submarine action figures at home, so i can bring them in also. "imagine" is an excellent theme. what would i do without you? :)

p.s. i love your photos! i'm so happy you have a blog! :) i shall link to it, my dear.
