i wonder if jemaine put a wig on bret after this photo was taken?

he's already sleeping, and in the spooning position. okay, on with the links:

no more "red wine headache?" woo! p.s. they used the phrase "life on mars" in the article. i'm trying to think of a witty bowie comment right now, but i got nothin'. i've been a little out-of-sorts lately...i think my blog has been pretty crappy as a result. i'll try to do better. here's an idea: since i don't bother to track my web traffic anymore, why don't you good people post some crazy linkage in the comments section...? then i can see who is really reading this, and you will also be helping a sistah out. although i'll feel pretty pathetic if no one posts anything... ok, now i'm getting depressed again.

oh yeah, rachel and i are going to see rick springfield and eddie money! scandal's playing, too. i have an ex-boyfriend from many moons ago that told me that every time he had the flu and would puke, he heard "the warrior" in his head. i still think of that everytime i hear that song. funny. AND, my friend katharine saw eddie money back in the day, and when he finally stumbled out on stage, he sat down on a stool that was set up for him. he sang like 3 lines of some song, and fell off the stool because he was so drunk. he passed out cold and they canceled the show. also funny.

ANYWAY, back to business...

glamour (mug) shots. if i ever get arrested, i hope it look cute in my mugshot.

so hey, you can wear your folk clothing while watching flight of the conchords, which finally comes out on dvd on tuesday!!! ahhh, i miss my bret. i like lookin' at him. i stole that phrase from my dear margy (or "margence," as i like to call her). when she wants to hang out, she says, "let's get together so i can look at ya! i miss lookin' at ya." :) i also miss jemaine (whom i also like lookin' at)and murray and dave and mel and even mel's husband, doug. poor doug. "it IS terrible, doug! it's terrible!!!" now you people who read this and have no idea why i have been going on and on about "the guys" so much can see for yourselves (although with all those youtube links i just posted, you don't need the dvd, do you? meh). yis, yis, i am very excited for tuesday, although word around the campfire is that there are no extras on the DVD. boooo! i want some commentary, some easter eggs, some un-pixelated jemaine in "business time!" i want a blooper reel! i want to hear all two hours of coco's song (scroll down to "episode 4 - yoko" and click on "coco's song")! oh well.

my eyes are just a little sweaty today

has anyone else been watching "tell me you love me" on the hbo? HOLY CRAP, it's like porn with hotter guys and a decent plot!

"i'm making a lasagna...for one..." and now you can, too! (and don't forget to bake it in your talking stove!)

the white stripes canceled their tour for the rest of the year because meg is suffering from "acute anxiety." i hear ya, sister. still, wonder what she's so stressed out about? meg, make yourself some of your grandma's corn souffle and take it easy:

INGREDIENTS:

1 16 oz. can of creamed corn

1 16 oz. can of corn niblets

1 box of Ritz crackers, chopped

1 egg

Mix creamed corn and niblets together. Chop crackers into little bits. Mix some of the crackers into the corn with an egg. Take the rest of the crackers and spread on top. Bake like a casserole for 40 minutes at 350 degrees. Meg: "It's awesome; the egg makes it solid and the crackers make it crunchy. Really good comfort food."

i actually made the above recipe once. it wasn't bad.

i know these lolcats are so 5 minutes ago...

i-can-not-has-fish-dont-know-how-to-use-chopstix.jpg ...but when i find one that looks like my cat i just can't take it! i want to teach gertie how to use chopstix...

do what now? (love this!!)

daydream nation is one of my favorite albums by anyone, ever.

dylan 07.

the 5 stages of drunkenness.

cheap ass food.

weird igloo-shaped food.

finally, here are the top 25 movie tearjerkers (i posted 26-50 the other day). i have personally cried at #24, #18, #14, #8 (of course), #7 (of course), #6 (big time--i watched this movie and then i watched it again immediately), #5 (see my comments from the other day), #4, #2 (although i was a little kid, don't know if i'd cry if i saw it now), and #1. BIG TIME CRIED at #1. when i saw this for the first time i was maybe 11 or 12, and my mom was coincidentally in the hospital at that very moment having cancerous tumors removed. and i had no idea what the movie was about--i just started watching it on hbo or whatever and then...ugh. i still remember sitting in my mom's chair, losing it. so...yeah. i totally cannot deal with that movie at ALL. for the record, my mom is fine now, still gets checked all the time but is cancer-free. but i still can't watch that movie. that hospital scene is brutal.

vacation, all i ever wanted...vacation had to get away...

this is the first day of my mini-vacation, and i wake up at 4:30 am. typical.

image courtesy of bighappyfunhouse. which i constantly mention as my favorite site ever.

tonight i am going to see the police. sometime within the next 4 days chris and i are going to the beach one day, and amusement park another day, and hopefully new hope another day. also probably planting flowers and/or mulching. woo! then i go back to work for about 1 hour on wednesday, and i get to leave to oversee a photoshoot. WOOO! i have to work all day thursday (BOOO!), BUT i only have 1/2 day friday, because that is white stripes day!!! WOOO! i actually took the 1/2 day in case they do some of that crazy surprise show action in the states like they just did in canada. if i missed seeing them on a bus or in a bowling alley or at the old folks home down the street or something because i was AT WORK, well...that would NOT be good. or maybe we'll just go down there early and drink white stripes-themed martinis all afternoon! actually, i'd like to see the simpsons movie , since it comes out that day.

anyway...

i didn't have a real one either...i had a knockoff when i was in 5th grade. it was red and i put a michael jackson button in it.

some of you might wonder what i did with my life before 2005, when i started this blog. well, wonder no more!! most of the pictures are gone, but the rest of the silliness is still there.

i kind of liked re-reading august '02, for a number of reasons. a lot of crazy stuff happened, and would you just LOOK at those hideous web pages!! what was i thinking?!? hahaha. man, i wish all the images were still there...

Lobster thermidor aux crevettes with a Mornay sauce garnished with truffle paté, brandy and with a fried egg on top and spam

yes, i'm talking about spam again. how odd! today was art on the avenue, which is an annual street fair-type thing. it was okay. the past few years i have sold jewelry at this thing because i lived right on "the avenue", so this year it was nice to just walk around and hang out. the highlight of the day was the spam-mobile, where they gave out little spam recipe books, spam magnets, and, yes, free samples of spam. i wasn't going to partake, but the guy in the spam-mobile convinced me. he actually said, "don't fear the spam!!!" so really, what could i do? i said to him, "but i don't like spam!!" in my best monty python voice, and he just stared blankly at me. either he had no idea what i was talking about, or he hears that 200 times a day and just can't take it anymore. not sure which. at any rate, it was only a teeny piece, and it was made on a george foreman grill. and it wasn't bad!

my mom used to make spam all the time. spam and eggs, spamburgers, you name it. she'd chop it up and put it in salads, she'd fry it in a pan, make a mean grilled cheese and spam sammich, she'd make generic egg mcmuffins with it. didn't moms of the 70's give a hoot about nutrition?! i mean, come on, now. check out the ingredients of spam:

Chopped pork shoulder meat with ham meat added.
Salt (for binding, flavor, and firmness)
Water (to help in mixing)
Sugar (for flavor)
Sodium Nitrite (for color and as a preservative)

eww. now read these haikus about the ingredients of spam.

did you realize there's a spam museum?

and finally, of course...

muah-hahahahaha!!

ha, she was screaming. i love it.

sopranos bada bing italian food trivia! i got 9 out of 11. woo! on a related note, i don't know how i'm going to go on after sunday's final episode. it's gonna be crazy, and then i'm gonna be sad. :( last week's episode was just insane. my poor silvio!!! and bobby bacala!!! *sigh* i don't even want to venture a guess as to how this will all end...but one thought is that phil's will order the killing of either one or all of tony's family, and i think paulie's a rat and tries to take out tony, but tony prevails. paulie's been very disgrunteled lately...why doesn't phil want to take him out?! he IS a captain, you know. maybe tony shoulda whacked paulie on the boat a few weeks ago. i think maybe silvio lives. i mean, why didn't they just kill him off if he wasn't going to live? who knows...and something has gotta happen with melfi and elliott...i can't believe he told that entire dinner party who melfi's star client was...and she has just told him WAAAY too much in her sessions. last week just can NOT be the last we've seen of melfi...the story has to come full circle. oh man, i SO CAN'T WAIT for sunday!!! i've be re-watching them on A&E as well, and the other night was the BEST episode, when chrissy and paulie get lost in the pine barrens chasing after the russian, and paulie loses his shoe...so great. when they find that abandoned van to seek shelter in, and they find a fast food bag on the floor with condiment packets..."mmmmm! mix the ketchup and the relish!!" ha. sidenote: this is actually the first episode of "the sopranos" that i ever saw, in a nashville hotel room in may 2001. me and my friend katharine were there for a big 3-day music festival, partying it up, and she was like, "we have to watch 'sopranos!'" so we did, and i couldn't believe how awesome it was. i got hbo immediately and rented the seasons that i missed. i watched season 1 in ONE WEEKEND. i was obsessed immediately. that was a great first episode to see.

"Even for the Internet, it’s … pretty shocking."

so, "office" season finale last night. this is the best show on tv, fo' sho'. i just love it so much i can't stand it. i wonder where jim and pam went on their date? awwww. :) i actually teared up. good finale all around...i also continue to be amazed at the song choices that are used in "the office" lately. "closer to fine" by the indigo girls, "lovefool" by the cardigans, and now "thank you" by natalie merchant?!?!? so awesome. just random songs that i have forgotten all about.

not "office" related: weird fortune cookie collection.

in other news, i have started weight watchers. they offered it for free for 10 weeks at work, and 20 of us are doing it, so of course i was like, "hell yeah, i could stand to lose a few pounds, i'll do it!" this is day three. i haven't gone over my points allotment at all yet. woooo, go me! on day one i hit it right on the money. on day two i was 3 points under. today, day three, i have 3 points left to go. my dilemma? tomorrow is my birthday, and rachel and i (whose birthday is on wednesday) invited like 30 people out for a big celebratory hang-out, and i will consuming large amounts of wings, beer, and fries. so i will probably be using all of my 35 flex points (the extra points you get to play with for the whole week--so if you go over your points once in a while, or you totally freak out and eat a whole pie, it's no big deal. it's factored in). no problem, though. in the cult of weight watchers, we know that the flex points are to be used and one can still lose weight. but now chris just asked me if i want to go out for my last dinner as a 33-year old, and i just can't bring myself to say no. i am so weak. i did so well for 3 whole days. all i've had since lunch (which was a whopping 13 points--damn you, arby's!) is a smoothie. a weight watchers smoothie. that i made with water. and it was NOT GOOD. i bought a whole box of them for $8 at my first meeting. i am angry. but at least it was only 1 point.

seriously, i am sounding like a cult member. i have uttered the word "points" so many times in the last three days that even i can't believe it. "i'm gonna sit at the welcome table..." AND EAT A WHOLE DAMN PIE!!!

the good, the bad, and the ugly

first, the bad: my sweet gramma passed away yesterday, on her 92nd birthday. i loved this woman so much; i spent so much time with her in my childhood, and a lot of time in the last few years of her life. she lived a great, full life, i know... but i am just so sad. she was totally mentally with it until maybe the last month, so that was really a blessing...but, she fell out of her chair and broke some bones and had internal bleeding, so there was nothing they could do but put her in hospice and keep her comfortable. i credit her for my love of yard sales and flea markets and farmer's markets and johnny cash. she made the best holiday dinners i've ever had...this woman would get up at 3 am and make these giant meals all by herself, and EVERYONE would come to her house...my family, my aunt and her family, my uncle and his family, gramma's stepbrother and his family, various friends...just everyone. her house was packed all day and all night. she was really wonderful, and i've been kind of a mess for the past week because she couldn't speak or keep her eyes open, and she looked nothing like the gramma i've always known. in one of the last conversations i had with her, she told me how special i was to her, and i told her the same...we talked a lot about when i was little, how every weekend i would sleep over at her house, just because i wanted to be with her. during the summer, i would stay for weeks at a time. and i lived in the same town! i just loved being at her house, and hanging out with these 2 other girls that went to my school and lived on her block. and she spolied me rotten, of course. :)

i am thankful that she is at peace now, and finally with my pappy (who passed away in 1998 at 88 years old...he tripped and fell coming inside the house because "the price is right" was on. i shit you not. that man never missed "the price is right" a day in his life.) my 2 sisters and i are going to be pallbearers at her funeral along with chris, my sister's husband, and my cousin. that's gonna be a tough one. my mom also asked if i wanted to speak at the funeral, but i don't think i can get through it...

and now, the good...

despite my grieving state, chris and i got up at 5 am and magically whisked ourselves away to delaware ("hi...i'm in delaware...") to wait in line for white stripes tickets. it was only a little over an hour away, and there were like 50 people in line already when we got there. eek! but, after careful calculating, we felt secure that we would get some tickets, and we did! wooooooo! and we got pretty decent seats (see above photo, we are in the very front row of that side section. not too shabby!). we each bought two tickets, because we overheard that practically everyone was buying 4 (the limit), and if you bought 2, the availablity was closer to the stage. i think that the theory was correct, because this girl who was at least 10 people ahead of us in line bought 4 and came out and her tickets were in the very back. and she didn't look too pleased. at any rate, looks like 2 of our lucky friends will be going to the show with us! or, two lucky ebayers will be paying a retarded amount of $$$ for these tickets at the last minute if we can't find anyone to go.

the venue, the grand opera house in fabulous downtown wilmington, seats a mere 1,100, so there isn't really a bad seat in the house. i mean, seriously. look how small this place is!!! and the top of the bulding (in the center with the two little windows and the triangle) looks like a chicken!!

this place seems to be or once was a masonic lodge...hmmm...my dad's a mason...wonder if i can get him to pull some strings? "ok dad, i've never asked you to use your masonic connections ever before in my whole life...now's the time. i need to meet jack white. make it so!!!"

the place looks totally cool inside, too. so, i'm really excited. this will be white stripes shows #5 for me (#3 for chris), and only my 2nd indoor stripes show. this is shaping up to be a good summer for me, concert-wise. bob dylan, the police, and the white stripes all in the span of one month. we also have loose plans to go back to the rock n' roll hall of fame this year, because there's a big doors thing. but also because it's awesome. we went in '03 and it was seriously one of the best times ever. and hopefully we can hit up cedar point again and get our coaster on as well.

and what is the ugly, you may ask? well, i decided to make some jell-o this afternoon. strawberry! mmmmmm. but a little boring all by itself. i have no cool whip handy, and i didn't feel like going to the store just for cool whip, you know? then i remembered when we would get jell-o in school, and it would always have bits of delicious fruit floating delicately and evenly throughout the jell-o blob. hey, i thought...i have some blackberries! that would be de-lish!!! WELL. they all sunk to the bottom of the bowl. how in the hell do you get them to float around?!? am i an idiot? what am i not understanding here? do you have to put it on its side, or add them halfway through the chilling process, or what? maybe it has to be made in like a long flat pan and not a bowl...whatEVER. eating that later is gonna be u-g-l-y...i ain't got no alibi, it's UGLY! i'd take a picture of it, but a certain co-worker of mine (accidentally) spilled an ENTIRE BEER on my camera in orlando and now it doesn't work. i'm not going to mention any names...MARTY!!!! >:(

*heavy sigh* this is all too much. i'm gonna take a nap now.

We have art in order not to die of the truth.

one of my favorite things in the whole world: 70's cookbooks.

monoface. fun-ish and freaky-ish.

awww. i won't make a snarky comment.

the 50 worst songs ever. is the #1 song REALLY that bad? i mean, it is, but there were worse moments than that song...well, okay. it's pretty bad. but for the record, i will admit to appreciating #s 16, 23, 26 (hey, when you see it in "apocalypse now," it's good), 27 (solely because of GOB), 34 (only because of the blurb they wrote about it. i was like, "i still have no idea what that song is!" and then i listened to it and laughed), and 42. #42 has no business being on there, at all.

stuff for all to enjoy.

amy sedaris, whom i L-O-V-E (lovelovelove), had some sort of craft challenge recently where people were supposed to put googly eyes on food. some of them are pretty funny and cute. i even have the winner as my background on my computer---it's so darn cute!

bum wines. these are the wines that winos drink. fun!

WARNING!!!

stay away from this recipe! don't let the cute picture fool you. do NOT prepare this for your loved ones, under any circumstances. unless you like extremely bland chicken with a "thai" sauce that only tastes like peanut butter. and then you think, "oh, i'll just add more soy sauce. that should help matters." but it doesn't. you just end up with a big bowl of brown goo that looks like something the cat just barfed up. they try to hide the sauce in the picture, see that? ugh. all you can do to salvage your evening is dump it down the drain and just eat the chicken with hot sauce and ranch dressing. then wash it down with a beer like i did. seriously, i would sooner eat stuff from this cookbook than make that slop again.

don't say i never did anything for you

here's a really easy recipe for baked brie with raspberry sauce. i think baked brie is rockin' and seems like a "rah-shah-shah" thing to serve, so i'm thinking i will be having it at my new year's party (even though it is the ghetto version, with crescent rolls and jam). the only change i would make is, you should serve red grapes with it instead of apple slices. i do recall that christine also makes a slammin' baked brie...perhaps if she's reading this, she can post the recipe...?

  • 1 tube of refrigerated Pillsbury crescent dinner rolls
  • 1 round or wedge of Brie cheese
  • Raspberry Jam, or other sweet jam
  • Brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup of maple syrup

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

On a stick-free cookie sheet, lay out the crescent rolls flat; put brie round or wedge on top. Spread jam on brie, fold crescent rolls over top. Drizzle maple syrup over rolls and place a handful of brown sugar on top. Bake at 350º for 25 minutes. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.

Serve with crackers and apple slices.

stuff.

play this. although it kind of stressed me out more than anything.

here is a film supposedly done by jim morrison when he was in film school...but i can't bring myself to shell out $3 to watch it.

so i got this book the other day, a novel about bloggers. chris asked me what i was reading, and i told him. i said, "you know, i really should read more, instead of watching tv and being on the internet all the time." and he said, "so, you bought a book about bloggers...?" hahaha. i'm dumb.

creed in a biskit

this person really hates chicken in a biskit.

this person really loves chicken in a biskit.

is this guy making chicken in a biskit?

this is also chemically-altered-chicken-related.

also, what is up with creed on "the office?!" even drunk meredith was like, "WTF is up with you?" ha. i love the creed moments. i hope we see a lot more of creed this season. i also think toby is kinda cute in some weird way. not jim or ryan cute, but he's definitely got his own thing going on. maybe pam should have a friendly fling with toby before she starts her life-long passionate love affair with jim. because, you know, that just needs to happen.

below is last week's creed:

i like eating. nicole richie doesn't, but i do!

i'm going out for my favorite meal in the whole wide world tonight: spicy honey BBQ wings (only 25 cents each!) and a pile of Pike Fries. (fries with fried onions, salsa, and melted cheese.) and of course a few frosty beers. it's probably the worst meal one could ever eat, health-wise. but do i care? hell to the no!

you gotta check out these celebrity recipes. the pictures with the recipes are priceless! especially batman and robin, tom cruise, and paul lynde. i love paul lynde.

i don't talk about him very much, but cat stevens is one of my favorite people that has ever walked this earth. and here are his nasty recipes.

do real men eat quiche? well, alfred hitchcock did!

i don't know why, but something tells me that tony danza is probably a good cook. hold me closer, tony danza!!

and here is what jack white has to say about the poetry of the chocolate malt:

one thing that concerns me however is the dying art of making a chocolate malt. i have to admit it is one of my favorite vices. but it seems that the days of the soda jerk being able to make a proper one in his sleep are long gone. so i will now list all of the known techniques to making a proper malt for anyone who is in a post ion to make it for others. the proper chocolate malt is as follows: VANILLA ice cream that's right VANILLA , you do not use chocolate ice cream for a chocolate malt. now if you can get past that very important step you are fifty percent there my friend. next you add chocolate syrup, fresh milk, and finally malt powder, lots of it. because if you don't add lots of it, it tastes like a shake, and that is not what i ordered! you have to have enough to give the malt it's "malt personality" if you will. and most importantly you do not mix it up until it's as watery as milk ( something they don't seem to understand in australia where i purchased three different malts at three different places only to be served something along the lines of chocolate milk, and it seemed they never heard of malt powder) you only mix the malt enough to get it through a straw, there should be a thick muddy feel to the malt, and a second helping should be served in a tin mixing cup along with the original malt in the glass. whip cream doesn't bother me, i can take it or leave it, but it is the dying art form of the malt maker/soda jerk that does bother me, i think we should all be aware of this and help to continue this dying, beautiful, comforting aspect of life, for our children if not for us ourselves.

As I ride on my horse through the countryside/I said “come on, Lady L, let me give you a ride"

still icky, but back at work. i am so dedicated.

"steal this book," wiki-style. i bought the book for someone and then stole it from him. i left it in my bathroom for years, kind of hoping someone would steal it, but no one did. meh.

here's a list of problems solved by macgyver.

this auction ends in a mere 5 hours; you better get bidding!!

here's some info about the mall that they filmed that scene from "the blues brothers" in. note: i love this blog long time! something about seeing pictures of malls in the 70's makes me really happy (especially when the malls where i grew up are featured).

snakes on a plane song!

i watched this all day yesterday. (this show, not just this clip. although that would be really funny if i only watched this clip all day.)

cluck cluck cluck. (warning: kind of gross story)

holy crap, i choked on a chicken bone last night!!! it was horrible! i could breathe and everything, so it wasn't a heimlich maneuver-type situation...but, i was eating a small piece of chicken and i swallowed, and i felt this bone that i couldn't feel when i was chewing. it was totally lodged in my throat. i started kind of freaking out, and chris asked me if i wanted to go to the hospital. i really didn't, so i tried to drink some water to wash it down. nothing. then i thought, well, if i try to throw it up, and that doesn't work, i'll go to the ER. so i went into the bathroom, stuck my finger down my throat, and the bone just immediately popped out, all on its own, with very little effort. whew! but it was SO LONG and pointy...i would say it was 2, maybe almost 3 inches long. YIKES! i could not even believe that thing was stuck in my throat. i threw it away, and chris said, "you mean, you're not going to take a picture of it for the blog?!" hahahahah! i said, "no, that's dumb." but now i wish i had. so no, the picture i have here is NOT the actual bone. i was also watching "six feet under" when this all happened, and i wondered how many people, if any, have died while watching "six feet under."

and now here's a link about which celebrities have herpes, and the most amazing uke playing you will ever see.

bwfytthijts2478a26i4$7893%($HKI4hahahahaha!

hoo-boy, i am so drunk! i've been drinking all day. i wanted to start at 11:30 (we got a case of heineken last night), but chris reminded me that i really should wait until noon. my argument that "but, it's noon somewhere!!" held no significance.

we really desperately needed to go to the grocery store, as the cupboard is REALLY bare. but, due to the drinking, we didn't go. i tried to make a suitable lunch out of 4 turkey hot dogs, a thing of pillsbury whole wheat "grands," and some shredded cheddar cheese.

i am personally impressed that i took pics of my jewelry, edited them, wrote the descriptions, posted them (so check them out!!), did a load of laundry, swept the floor, showered, AND made makeshift pigs in a blanket. all while drinking.

so, here's to alcohol! the cause of, and solution to, all of life's problems.

see the pigs cookin' in the oven (i normally AM a decent cook...i think i did okay makin' do with what i had to work with).

see chris eating the delicious pigs (mmmmmmm...pigs...)!

see gertie saying, "what the hell is that you guys are eating?! my damn purina kitten chow is better than that ghetto crap. drunks."
