i don't know why i don't blog anymore...well, that's a lie. i totally know why. a) i am too lazy to look around for cool links in my free time, b) i don't have that much free time, and c) i'm totally over it. i think, if i'm going to blog again, i need some kind of schtick, some kind of theme, some kind of funny angle to make it more interesting. meh.

but, i have had a bunch of people admonish me for not updating the blog, so here's the update! first what's going on with me, and then some links. maybe the LAST LINKS EVER!!! *gasp*!!

so, the holidays are winding down. thank goodness. i am so partied-and-fooded out. i got some groovy gifts, though. chris got me not one but TWO new ukes!!! one is a good one, and the other is a "crap" one. but it's pink!!!! a cute pink girlie uke, wheeeeee! it's just screaming out for a glittery hello kitty sticker or something. the good uke is awesome, it's an ohana and sounds infinitely better than the busted old johnson uke. i also got a million felt picks. chris also got me a new digital camera and pulp fiction action figures! awww, my mans. he's nifty. oh yeah, he also got me a set of miniature furniture from hong kong...a bed, 2 dressers (with working drawers) a table, 4 chairs, and a rocking chair. they are all painted with a cool asian design...oh, did i mention that they are all butane lighters?!?!? uh-huh. they are awesome! right now the wolf and jimmie from pulp fiction are at the table, drinking coffee (lotsa cream, lotsa sugar) and bloody vincent is on the bed, pointing a gun at bloody jules, who is standing on top of a dresser pointing a gun at vincent. yes, i am 34 years old and still play with action figures. i used the bed to light my cigarette earlier. cue "beds are burning" by midnight oil!!! ha.

i got a lot of other fun things, too. i have the greatest fam and friends ever! i cooked Christmas Dinner this year for mark and margaret and margy's brother harris. it was delicious. i made turkey, homemade mashed potatoes, homemade gravy, green bean casserole, corn, rolls...oh, and we had wine. DID WE EVER! then lori came over, then rachel came over, then wyatt and his friend katie came over. did i mention i drank a lot of wine that day? margaret tells me she has many "terrific (and incriminating) photos and movies" coming my way. i just may have to crawl in a hole and die. but it was fun. damn red wine. red red wine makes me feel so fine...until the next day. that was one wicked hangover. ugh.

last night i got all dolled up and went to a ra-sha-sha cocktail party. i had more red wine, but i kept everything under control. for once.

i will be spending new years with friends in the basement they converted into a kickass mini-irish pub, and in their hot tub. WOO! but that means i think i might have to buy a new bathing suit, since mine is now too big. DOUBLE-WOO!

i always intend on sticking to the new year's resolutions i half-heartedly make, but i never do. this year my big ones are drink less, eat healthier, find an exercise regimen that i actually can deal with and stick to, and swear less. if i end up doing any of those things it will be a miracle.

i'll be back eventually. for now, please enjoy this crazy story that i discovered via the new findadeath.com forum, which is my new obsession. (thanks, rachel!!!) anyway, it's all about people on sesame street that have died. first, you can read all about the original gordon, then mr. hooper, which they actually addressed on the show.

but the most amazing story is about the guy who played david. ahhhh, northern calloway. for one special evening, you were bat-shit crazy. it's amazing that this story isn't more well-known.

i was telling dave about bad news the other day. so now i'm telling you.

last night when i was reading that, i discovered that adam horovitz is married to kathleen hanna. i had no idea!!! i loved bikini kill.

that wiki entry led me to read about "over the edge," which is one of the greatest 70's teen movies ever. i first saw it on tv when i was in high school, and then it was on again so i taped it, and then i found it at a used record store on vhs for $5. it has good music, matt dillon, and the kids blow up the school at the end. but not in a campy "rock n' roll high school" kind of way. then i read (and remembered) that kurt cobain loved this movie. coincidentally, i rocked out in my car to nirvana the other day for the first time in years and years. it was fun, but made me feel old. i remembered how i was obsessed i was (much like the rest of the universe) with "nevermind" when it came out, not long after i graduated high school. in 1991. which was 16 years ago. when did i get old?!?!? that was a good time for music, though. i wasn't into "grunge" bands so much as i was into the riot grrrl bands. i loved hole (yes, i am admitting that. i was all about "pretty on the inside" and every b-side and 7" and demo and what have you. "live through this" was good, i guess, but i turned on courtney soon after it came out. i turned on her for many reasons, but i really didn't like the slicker versions of those older songs. especially "doll parts." once upon a time i *loved* that song. i hated the way is sounded on "live through this." HATED IT. but the timing of the album's release made it important, i guess. courtney just started totally sucking as a human being, and continues to do so. so, f her.

yes indeed, things are crazy. but i promise you that the photos that i will post from dave's party friday night will definitely make up for the lack of updates. there has never been a drunker, sloppier party than dave's party, and there were about 200 pictures taken. good one, dave! ooooh, you're a legend, dave! there was drinking, hot dog-eating, smores-making, beer pong-ing, singing, guitar-ing, hugging, tackling, wrestling, fire-peeing, accidental nipple-licking, falling down, camping out, and lots and lots of laughter. i have the best friends ever.

and if you live in san antonio, texas, go see the mighty ELECTRIC HORSEMEN, which happens to be my friend wyatt's band play on sunday (who, incidentally, just got a record deal! WOOOOOOOOOO!!). yes, they're going on tour!!! crammed in a toyota corolla, driving from pennsylvania to texas and trying to make it in 2 days. eek. but it will be worth it. rumor has it they are even better than dethklok!

first of all, he played "meet me in the morning." AND HE PLAYED IT WITH JACK WHITE.

if i was there i would've broke down and wept. i'd have to check, but he, like, NEVER plays that song. i've seen him nearly 20 times and never heard that song. the white stripes canceled their tour for the rest of the year because meg is suffering from "acute anxiety." i hear ya, sister. still, wonder what she's so stressed out about? meg, make yourself some of your grandma's corn souffle and take it easy:

INGREDIENTS:

1 16 oz. can of creamed corn

1 16 oz. can of corn niblets

1 box of Ritz crackers, chopped

1 egg

Mix creamed corn and niblets together. Chop crackers into little bits. Mix some of the crackers into the corn with an egg. Take the rest of the crackers and spread on top. Bake like a casserole for 40 minutes at 350 degrees. Meg: "It's awesome; the egg makes it solid and the crackers make it crunchy. Really good comfort food."

i actually made the above recipe once. it wasn't bad.

worst trip ever.

first of all, vegas is hot as balls. so hot that it's almost unbearable. when the wind blows, it feels like you've opened an oven door and stuck your head inside. i got insanely sick while i was there, so i spent saturday night until tuesday morning in my hotel, in bed - sneezing and coughing and blowing my nose and aching and moaning and groaning and, at one point, crying. and watching really crappy tv. BOOOOOO!!! the pain in my ears on the flight home was pure torture. my ears closed and didn't open up again until like 18 hours later. worst trip ever. i'm still in a horrible, horrible state.

i had some fun the first 3 nights, however. the first night we went to the venetian, which was nice. it looks like you're outside in italy, even though you're inside, and there is a river running through it with gondola rides. good food. i lost $20 in about 2 minutes in a slot machine. we walked into tao for about 2 seconds also.

the 2nd night we went to a crappy casino on the strip called bill's saloon and sat in their dank, dingy, 70's, velvety lounge and laughed at a crappy cover band over cheap beers. that was fun. then we met elvis and marilyn on the street on the 2nd night we were there. they wanted a tip and we ran away, because we are classy like that. then we saw the fountains at the bellagio, and the song was "viva las vegas." woo.

the 3rd night we went to a fun italian restaurant. that place was really rowdy and fun. i don't know if it's like that all the time, but we were all wooing and raising our glasses and talking to all the other tables the whole time. i got way too drunk at dinner (free unlimited wine + 2 martinis = WHOOPS, I'M DRUNK!). i got propositioned by a complete douchebag at the next table when i went outside to smoke. it literally took him about 2 seconds to ask me to have sex with him. EWWW! he was married with a baby on the way. he didn't care. he also told me he was in the CIA. what a tool. he gave me his number on his way out, even after i totally rejected him, and rachel put his number straight into her lasagna and smeared it around. hahaha.

the 4th night i went out to dinner with the girls. i felt like a had a bit of a cold coming on, so i went to bed at 9:30. yes, i was in bed at 9:30 on a friday night in vegas. and bed is where i pretty much stayed for the next 3 days. i even missed the last 2 days of our trade show. *heavy sigh* oh well. at least being sick kept me out of trouble. oh, and at about 3 a.m. on tuesday morning, about an hour before i had to wake up to fly home, i heard this really loud banging noise that startled me awake. then i realized my headboard was moving. yes, the people in the next room were obviously having WAY more fun than i was.

worst trip ever. :(

saw "halloween" last night, and i liked it. there were some good peeps in the movie, like sid haig , clint howard, and danny trejo...but no one beats the nearly unrecognizable cameo of mickey dolenz (yes, that mickey dolenz) as the owner of the gun shop. i wasn't even sure if it was really him...i leaned over to rachel, and said, "holy crap -- is that mickey dolenz?!?" and sure enough, his name was in the credits. i was very proud of myself.

anyway, the movie was suspenseful, sufficiently bloody, plenty creepy, and just pretty good all around (especially after a bunch of beers). rob zombie did a good job.

on tuesday, i'm leaving for vegas for a week on business. there will certainly be some trolling for celebs since the mtv awards are going on while we're there. not that there's anyone presenting or performing that i would really be psyched to run into (or would even reconize, for that matter. i am old and not into rap, so...there you have it). but there should be some celebs partying it up over the weekend, so...yeah. as if i will be hanging out where the famous people are gonna be hanging out. i am staying a stone's throw from the hard rock hotel & casino, though...so who knows. i've never been to vegas before. i think my boss is worried that on the first night i am going to gamble all of my money away and become an alcoholic, crack-addicted trailer hooker (who doesn't know how to dress professionally).

chris and i were watching the miss teen usa pageant on friday night, because we are cool like that. we actually had fun making fun of all those stupid, spray-tanned, overly made-up girls. none of them looked like teenagers, they all looked at least 25 with all that hideous makeup and pageant hair. they all had to do these awkward dance moves every 5 minutes as well, which we were mimicking as we watched.

ugh, i hardly sold anything at the punk rock flea market. but that's okay, it was pretty cool. good tunes, cool vendors, beer, and you could smoke in there. plus several of my wunnerful friends stopped by to hang out with me for a bit. :) i probably made around $50, plus i traded stuff with other vendors...i now have a new handmade purse and wallet made with vintage fabric, a book about haight-ashbury and a new patch for my army jacket. i also got a free punk rock coloring book and comic. the whole thing would have been better if i wasn't INSANELY HUNGOVER from the day before. waaaaaah...i was doing okay at the beginning, even had a few beers. but then about halfway through the day i got an intensely nauseating, pounding headache. so i packed up at 5, came home, took a nap, and made myself some eggs. i am feeling much, much better. but the hangover was worth it; rachel's party ruled! so so so so fun. there's a pretty decent chunk of the night that i don't really remember at all...but i think i did pretty well for someone that was drinking for 8 hours straight.

my freaky, freaky dream

last night i had the most disturbing dream of all time. i was walking through a hospital with my boss (not rachel, who i talk about all the time, but the head of our department) and for some reason we were talking about cancer. he was all like, "well, do you want to go to the cancer ward?" i said, "sure!" so we went to the cancer ward, and i had a cup of coffee in my hand. there were all these crazy hoses and clamps and machines hooked up to the walls. people were attached to these machines, and the clamps were clamping them down and they were all screaming, and the hoses were jutting out this thick, pasty, white goo into their bodies from every orifice. like, their eyes, their mouths, etc. all the people had hospital gowns on, and dark circles under their eyes and rotting skin. when a person was finished with one of the machines, the whole wall would shift down and the next person would end up there, like an assembly line. it was like a long corridor with crazy evil hoses every few feet. throughout the entire thing these poor people were secreting this weird pink-colored substance that was thick and sticky and gooey, and it was everywhere. it got in my coffee cup, in my hair, everywhere.

my boss was laughing the entire time.

how shocking, it's another flight of the conchords post! just call me mel. speaking of mel, her vlog from the other day is funny. i like her little plastic recorder. i used to have a green one. but i would pretend i was a snake charmer with it. this was about a year ago. (yah, i kid.) and, as time goes on, i am starting to REALLY love murray. a lot. he's precious. "how 'bout a bit of hay, coming out of your mouth! that would be cool!" i enjoyed murray as the goat in brit's trip, all smarmy and snarly with the beer. oh, heavens.

anyway, let's discuss the upcoming episode. oh my. :) :) :) obviously they figured out a way to incorporate the frodo song and brit's elfin (elvin? elven? meh.) past into the show. i must admit, i am not the biggest LOTR fan. i mean, i read the books a million years ago and i've seen the movies, and it's all fine and good. but it's not something that i'm "into." i just can't believe that this guy is also this guy.

only 2 shows left...and then what are we all to do?!? you can only re-watch the old ones so many times. and i've already watched them SO MANY TIMES...

here are some random fotc things that chris and i now say with considerable frequency in our every day lives:

here i am, back at work after my mini-vacation. i am not happy about it. i have no energy to look for interesting links, so i will talk about flight of the conchords YET AGAIN. last night our sixy kiwis bret and jemaine temporarily gained 2 new fans, who gave them LSD and one of them convinced them to have a threesome w/ her. le sigh...they were a little freaked out by the whole thing and didn't want to look at each other during it, but seriously. why can't a heterosexual guy tell a heterosexual guy that he thinks his booty is fly?

we got to see lots of mel this week, and her house, and a bit of mel's husband hiding in the basement in the dark. we also learned that bret can't even have one sip of beer without running to the toilet.

i also love that the only song they ever play live is "i like to rock the party." well, except at that new zealand expo with jemaine and the tape. he added those bits about the hotties at the party shakin' their boobies and their babies shakin' their booties. you know, those little woolen boots that babies wear.

as we all know, they got picked up for a second season. huzzah! i was poking around on message boards and wikipedia (the episode details w/ musical references are good) and whatnot yesterday afternoon, and i think my obsession is somewhat mild compared to some of these chickies out there. but maybe not. i guess a lot of us are needy for a weedy shy guy.

i have the next 3 days off (plus the weekend, so really 5 days off) and i couldn't be happier! i plan on making as many necklaces as humanly possible for the big punk rawk flea market coming up. i also plan on doing some art, drinking many beers, eating somewhat poorly, staying up way too late, etc. oh, on friday night 2 of my nephews are sleeping over. that'll be a riot. they are 10 and 12 years old, and very cool and hilarious. they want me to take them to the beatles-themed sub shop in my neighborhood (aptly named "yellow submarine") because i made a very deliberate effort to get them into the beatles when they were teeny tiny little tykes. we also plan on playing lots of video games and staying up super-late. i am the cool aunt. i let them do whatever they want and eat whatever they want. woooooo!

let's see...what else is going on...i lost 21 pounds on weight watchers! awwww yeah!! i feel great. i didn't realize that i was such a fatass.

ummm...i watched a bunch of joan crawford movies within the past 2 weeks. there were a bunch of joan flicks on turner classic movies, so i DVR-ed most of them. i saw a few that i love ("possessed," "mildred pierce,"), a few that i've never seen before ("flamingo road," "autumn leaves," "berzerk" - i only managed to get through less than half of that piece of crap), and one that i haven't seen in years, "trog." which is the most ridiculously awesome movie ever! i am never deleting it, ever ever. sadly, they did not air "strait-jacket." which, incidentally, i gave to mark and margaret as an engagement gift. i think i have issues. anyway, i friggin' love joan crawford.

you know, i never just *like* things; i get totally obsessed with them. john waters once said, "life is nothing if you aren't obsessed." and i completely understand that statement. last night i was googling the conchords (ooooooh yeah) and i was crushed when i saw that they played the tla in philly in early june. JUNE! but i didn't know about them until, like, late june. DAMN IT! if and when i see them live, i...i just don't know what i will do. well, i'll sit there and listen, probably laugh a lot, probably stare at jemaine's lips and bret's awesome beard. but i digress.

i enjoy googling bret and jemaine (awwwww yeah) because everyone else seems to have the same growing obsession that i have. and that my friend margaret has. i bet she knows every word to every song by now. she does not get the hbo, and one day she was hanging out and i showed her an episode. she knew all the words to "the humans are dead" by the next day. rachel and i were listening to them in the car on friday, laughing our asses off.

finally, here are the top 25 movie tearjerkers (i posted 26-50 the other day). i have personally cried at #24, #18, #14, #8 (of course), #7 (of course), #6 (big time--i watched this movie and then i watched it again immediately), #5 (see my comments from the other day), #4, #2 (although i was a little kid, don't know if i'd cry if i saw it now), and #1. BIG TIME CRIED at #1. when i saw this for the first time i was maybe 11 or 12, and my mom was coincidentally in the hospital at that very moment having cancerous tumors removed. and i had no idea what the movie was about--i just started watching it on hbo or whatever and then...ugh. i still remember sitting in my mom's chair, losing it. so...yeah. i totally cannot deal with that movie at ALL. for the record, my mom is fine now, still gets checked all the time but is cancer-free. but i still can't watch that movie. that hospital scene is brutal.

best tear-jerkers ever, part 1. i personally have cried at # 49, #44, i love #42 but i never cried, #39, #36 (and yes, i am ashamed of myself), #34, #29, #28, and #27. i'm sure when the top 25 comes out i will have cried at most, if not all, of them.

there are a few movies that make me cry every single time i see them, no matter how many times. "it's a wonderful life" (if this movie does not make you cry, then you have no soul), "harold and maude," "breakfast at tiffany's," "eternal sunshine of the spotless mind," and "the royal tenenbaums." i'm crying at "tenenbaums" within the first 5 minutes, every time. when young richie lets mordecai go and "hey jude" is playing...oh man. i could cry right now.

today was my company picnic. it was at a reading phillies game. free buffet, but not free beer. BOO! it was about 6 million degrees outside, and i am sunburned. ow. it was raining all night last night and all morning, and then the rain just let up before the game. i thought it would not be sunny, so i didn't put any sunblock on. but i was very, very wrong. ugh. it got crazy bright and sunny and there was no shade so The Palest Girl on Earth (i.e. me) is already red red RED. ugh. i did have 3 beers at the game, and 2 more since i've been home, and "mean streets" is on the HBO, so all is right with the world. man, the "mean streets" soundtrack is so killer...

crazy half-drunk white stripes post-show report

i am just going to type all of this as it comes to me, and not bother editing it or correcting spelling errors. i just really need to get this down while it is still fresh in my mind, for posterity's sake.

that was hands down, BAR NONE the best show i have ever been to in my life, by ANYONE. it was insane. we could not BELIEVE how awesome our seats were. i'm so glad we waited in line for hours and hours for those tickets. it was worth it.

so, we get to wilmington around 5:30 or so, maybe 6...we went into this restaurant 821 right across the street from the grand opera house. they had a white stripes themed dinner menu and 2 different white stripes martinis. i had the Denial Twist. anyway, we're sitting at the bar drinking, and one of the white stripes' people came in. (she was wearing a badge that she was with the band...actually it was more like a sticker. but ANYWAY...) she asked the bartender if she could have one of the menus, because the white stripes heard about it and wanted a copy. they told her that she couldn't have a real one until later, but shhe could make a copy of it. she says ok, and leaves. so what do i do? i snatched a menu and shoved it up my skirt. we left after a few drinks and i was like, "if i see that chick, i'm gonna give her the menu and then maybe i'll get to meet jack white somehow because i was cool like that..." yes, that is probably exactly what went through my mind just then. i am crazy. anyway, i never saw her, i i have this menu now. AND my martini was free! so far, best pre-dinner drinks ever.

we go inside and we immediately bought 2 posters, because they are unique to each show, and numbered (ours is 69 of 270 or something like that). they're all done by rob jones, whom i have mentioned in the past, and did the QT fest poster kenny got me for Christmas last year. i emailed rob jones and asked him some raconteurs poster question, and he was really nice and cool. anyway, i also bought a white stripes sewing kit. :)

so, we go to our seats, freak out about how good they are, and go back to get drinks. let me say that the grand opera house is an AWESOME place to see a show. it's beautiful and comfortable and the people who work there are so nice. chris ordered a jack and coke (and we joked about the irony of jack and coke, like jack white and coca-cola) and the bartender filled up 2/3 of the cup with jack and put like 5 drops of coke in. chris was like, "woo-hoo!" i got a heineken. we sat back down, watched dan sartrain, who was really good. chris got more drinks--another lethal jack and coke and a heiney for me) and soon the show starts. oh, the drinks were CHEAP! $3 for bber and $4 for a mixed drink. that is not bad AT ALL. also, i didn't have to wait in line for the bathroom AT ALL, and when i went during dan sartain 2 ushers lit their flashlights and led me out. it was so cool, like something people did in the 50's, back when america had class. so far, best concert ever!

so eventually jack and meg walked out, and the place just went wild and stayed wild the entire night, singing to every song, even new ones ("i'm slowly turning into you" was totally, totally great with the "WOO's" and the whole crowd singing it and clapping...jack white went "YEAH!" when we did that; also smiled a lot during "we're going to be friends." the set list was insane!!!

i just got that set list off a white stripes message board. i will post all photos and audio of the show as i find it. there was a LOT of recording and picture-taking happening, so this is gonna be cool. every single person there was SO INTO IT. including jack and meg. it was amazing.

jack was RIGHT IN FRONT OF US the entire time, and we were on the side and completely eye-level with him and there was no one in front of us at all. it was perfect. it was SO LOUD, it was great. there were a lot of really incredible moments. and he looked right at me during the intro for "i fought piranhas." yay! all my primping paid off! ha. i looked a haggard mess at the end of that show. i was dancing around the whole time, and my mascara ran and my hair was all messy. it was funny.

there was a big disco ball and it was fun when they turned the lights down. the also has some good crazy lighting action during some of the songs, like "catch hell blues." meg was wearing a white toop and black pants, and jack was all red from head to toe. i was wearing a black t-shirt withh tiny red stripes on it and a black skirt. i went as a candy cane child tonight.

delaware REALLY showed the white stripes the love tonight. everyone was singing along to everything and clapping and dancing and rockin' out...it was just awesome.

he also told a delaware joke early on, and recounted a dream he'd had the other night. so crazy! i also saw him give meg a little kiss on the side of her head after whispering something in her ear, and it was really cute.

i just can't stress how awesome they sounded. jack was totally out of control. "i just don't know what to do with myself" was really great, he just let us sing that line. everything was crazy good.

at the end (after the like 45 minute encore!!!!) jack goes, "thank you, we really appreciate it so much...we really do. thank you..." because everyone was just cheering for them SO MUCH, thanking them for this awesome show. they both looked happy. oh, during "7 nation army" he sang, "far from this opera house forever more," and that was cute.

there were tons of people taping the show and taking pictures, so tomorrow all that stuff should turn up. i can't wait! best show ever. ever ever ever. i'm sure i will remember more tomorrow...time for bed now...

i can't believe white stripes day is finally here! i am beyond excited. i got my hair did last night (not specifically for the show or anything), and it looks bitchin'. it's dark at the bangs (which have been cut into teeny baby bangs) with big blonde chunks in it, and lighter brown and darker blonde all over...it's total retro-meets-rock-chick hair. i love it. i did buy a vintage dress from the 40's at love saves the day to wear tonight, but i think i might wear something else. it's going to be hot today, and i want to be comfortable. we shall see. i also bought a dress for the show a few months ago, and i am totally not going to wear that tonight. i also have a few options if i want to go the black, red, and white route. again, we shall see.

i have always put much effort into my concert attire. why? who knows. i remember my first ramones show in high school, i BEGGED my mom to give me money to go to zipperhead on south street and buy something cool to wear. and she did. :) it was this cool vintage purple dress and i wore ripped-up black tights with it, and and army jacket and combat boots. i also remember the outfit i bought for my first bob dylan show. i looked so fly. it was a tight-fitting green and black jersey t-shirt thing and little black pants. i was going for the "bob dylan '65" look. usually for white stripes shows i dress like a candy cane child, but i don't think so for tonight. we are going to an opera house, so i think i may need to kick things up a notch.

i can remember what i was wearing for every important (and sometimes unimportant) thing that has ever happened to me. so odd. anyway, i will write an insanely long post about the show tomorrow, i'm sure.

I know what you’re thinking and yes, they are wrinkled, but they’re still strong.

Number One on my list of changes: Pennsylvania should change its name to Transylvania. Lots of idiots buy all kinds of vampire rings and vampire necklaces and garlic-flavored vampire gum. There’s a lot of dough to be made from these suckers and I’m tired of seeing it go to foreigners. If we change the name of the state, we can probably do away with property tax considering the amount of souvenirs we’re going to sell. Also, vampire fans are notoriously good tippers.

Number Two: Cops’ uniforms should be neon yellow. The get-ups they wear now make it too hard to see them coming at night and I’m tired of those jerks sneaking up on me. If I’m elected Governor, I want to make sure that people know where cops are at all times.

Number Three: Soup kitchens have to offer more variety. From what I’ve heard, they serve the same soup two, three times a week. People really get sick of mushroom barley all the time, you know?

Number Three and a Half: Mushroom Barley soup will be illegal across the state. Honestly, I don’t think anyone’s going to miss it.

Number Four: Increase funding to all public schools.

Number Five: I will institute a database with pictures of every resident in the state naked. Every five years, a citizen can request to view any one person’s naked picture for a viewing period of ten minutes. After they’ve used up their viewing, they have to wait another five years until they can view another. It’s just not fair for all these foxy ladies to be walking around without anyone being able to see them naked. This is going to be the cornerstone of my campaign.

I’ve got a lot more ideas for making this state the best in the country and if you vote for me, I promise to listen to everything you have to say. Now, I know I haven’t voted for the past fifty years, but I think that’s going to give me a real leg up on the competition because they can’t attack me for my voting record. Stick with me and we’ll make some real changes to this stupid square state.

saw the police last night. my opinion? move over, the who show of summer 2000! you have been replaced with a new "worst concert ever!"

first of all, the venue is one mere hour away from us, and it took us like 3 hours to get there. the traffic situation was not good. but fine, whatever...we anticipated this, so we got there in plenty of time to get some much-needed food and drinks and visits to the port-o-pottys (which is always SUCH a joy). but the weather was awesome. sunny with a nice cool breeze. we missed the opening band, which was also a plus. the police played everything you'd expect them to, and a few of them sounded decent. one or two actually sounded good. but most of them were just AWFUL. my favorite po-po song, "don't stand so close to me," was really slow and he sang the whole song in the lower register and all jazzy...ick. it just didn't work. like i said, there were a few songs that sounded good, like "every little thing she does is magic." i never was all gung-ho about that song before, but it stands out because it was apparently the best they could do last night. "synchronicity II" was good. "wrapped around your finger" was okay. but ohhhhhh, mostly it was just so boring and bad. at one point, kenny & john & i were talking about what they're going to do with the hardwood flooring in their spare room. while the police were on stage. the talking amongst the crowd was pretty loud in general. oh, and there was pan flute. need i say more?

so, we left at the encore, which i never, ever do (except at the aforementioned who show. we can discuss that another time). but we were thinking this was a smart move and we could get out of the venue easier. HA! practically the whole damn place left early, they were all like, "screw these guys, we're goin' home!" friends of ours that was a few rows behind us called and said they looked over and our entire section was gone. so we sat in that parking lot trying to get out for 2 hours. freakin' literally. like, we seriously moved just a few yards in 2 hours. it was really awful. then, after we managed to actually get on the highway, we still sat in traffic for who knows how long. we got in the car to leave at 10:30 and i didn't get home until 2 am. all in all, it was a 10-hour ordeal. it was a nightmare. it was a debacle. it was horrible. it was a disaster. it might have been better if the show didn't suck so bad...but it did. it sucked so bad. and, if you read my post yesterday, you will note that i woke up at 4:30 am. i didn't fall asleep until 3:30 am. i was up for 23 hours (save fore the 15 minutes or so of dozing off i did in the car. DAMN. those bastards. that douchebag and his pan flute. i hate them.

this is the first day of my mini-vacation, and i wake up at 4:30 am. typical.

tonight i am going to see the police. sometime within the next 4 days chris and i are going to the beach one day, and amusement park another day, and hopefully new hope another day. also probably planting flowers and/or mulching. woo! then i go back to work for about 1 hour on wednesday, and i get to leave to oversee a photoshoot. WOOO! i have to work all day thursday (BOOO!), BUT i only have 1/2 day friday, because that is white stripes day!!! WOOO! i actually took the 1/2 day in case they do some of that crazy surprise show action in the states like they just did in canada. if i missed seeing them on a bus or in a bowling alley or at the old folks home down the street or something because i was AT WORK, well...that would NOT be good. or maybe we'll just go down there early and drink white stripes-themed martinis all afternoon! actually, i'd like to see the simpsons movie , since it comes out that day.

this is going to be a dumb post. there is nothing going on on the internet today, and i'm just feeling kind of blah in general. yesterday was very nice, though...we woke up early and went to kenny & john's yard sale, where we bought a ginormous candle from them. then we went and got sushi with mark and margy, where we developed the concept of a "happy days" spin-off called "i sat on it." fonzie married that boring, normal woman with the child at the end of the "happy days" series, right? so this would continue from there, with fonzie's whole life going to shit. he becomes totally uncool, potsie ends up being his boss, he tries to turn something on by punching it, like a jukebox or the lights or something, and it falls apart...he gives himself the thumbs-down in the mirror, and says "uggggggh" instead of "AYYYYYYY..." and instead of hanging up his "cool" leather jacket, he hangs up his pathetic smock from the acme supermarket that says "arthur" on the front, or whatever. so funny.

then we all went to a giant book bonanza. i got 7 books for $3.25...a betty crocker meat cookbook from the 70's, a casserole cookbook from who knows when (they both have gloriously hideous photographs of the food, though), some crazy book called "what rock is all about," (i guess it was to help teenagers in the 70's be not as clueless and lame? the book itself if spretty clueless and lame, however), and some crafty books from the 70's. oh, and "when rabbit howls." i love crazy people books! and a charlie brown book, too.

after the book bonanza, we got ice cream. YAAAAAAAY! what a good day that was. in contrast, today was pointless. except i went out this afternoon and picked up a cute pair of pants.

i had such a nice day today...i slept in, got sushi with miss margy, got a cool vintage shirt at flashback's after lunch, and later went out for martinis with my mans. we sat outside and it was just lovely. and last night i had a big gay dance party in my living room! it was awesome. "buffalo stance," anyone? anyway, my boys were all bummed because their morrissey show got canceled. i hope i was a suitable substitute. ha. i'm sure i SO wasn't, dancing around the house drunkenly, as i am apt to do...but we can't have everyone gazing at their shoes, sad and depressed, now can we?

right now i am watching "the song remains the same" on vh1 classic while the man and the cat are sleeping. i haven't seen this since high school. and it's just not sitting well with me. don't get me wrong, i LOVE zeppelin. deeply. but this particular concert (or rather, concerts edited together) just doesn't do it for me. and these little vignettes with them riding horses and swordfighting and being pirates and wearing cloaks and getting all mystical...uggggh. no thanks. although i have always enjoyed robert plant's pants...

this came out about a week ago, but here's the afi top 100 films list. "citizen kane" #1 again, "the godfather" #2. again. for the record, i am more of a "godfather" person than a "citizen kane" person. i've seen "the godfather" probably 50 times. i even turned down a night out on the town on friday night because it came on tv, and i immediately got sucked into it. my parents and i tend to quote it all the time, either because we're discussing the movie, or just in regular life. there's the standard quotes that everyone does ("leave the gun, take the cannolis," "i am enzo! THE BAKER!" etc). my dad often says, "i want inquiries made," which makes me laugh. my mom likes to say, "that's a true story." (and then she'll add, "that's my family, kay, that's not me.") i think it's fun to say, "bada beep, bada bap, bada boop." and i know my friend rachel likes, "monday, tuesday, thursday, wednesday, sunday, saturday..." ahhhhh. it's just so good. i also feel proud of the fact that i can pretty much figure out what they're saying to each other in italian. especially in the infamous "louis in the bronx" restaurant scene. okay, i'm a dork, moving on...

and these chicks came out with their own top 100. i shouldn't call them "these chicks;" they are in fact the alliance of women's film journalists.

saw bob last night, show #18. it was wonderful, of course! AND HE PLAYED GUITAR FOR THE FIRST 5 SONGS!!!! oh, how i missed that man on the gee-tar. highlights: "my back pages," which i don't think i've ever seen live (i'd really have to check, though, but it's definitely a rare one). "spirit on the water" was wonderful, and i totally had a moment with "nettie moore." i don't listen to that song a whole lot, but his phrasing was phenomenal during that song. we were in the 15th row, but i had bincoulars so i just stared at his face all close-up during that song. ahhhhh. "it ain't me, babe" and "it's alright, ma..." had totally new arrangements and they were great. which is just what bob does. we were talking about the different phases of bob live...the bluegrass phase, the rockabilly phase...now we're in full-on blues phase. with a fiddle. :)

i love my bob. it was a beautiful day, and a beautiful night, hanging with my two best girls and my favorite fella. :) oh yeah, "summer days," which ususally is a "meh" moment for me because he plays it at practically every show, was really, really good last night. i was really shakin' what my mama gave me like crazy during that one.

one thing that i love about bob shows is audience reaction to certain lines. it's great that people applaud amazing lines of a song instead of just a whole song. i also like the whole "spirit on the water" exchange that goes on now:

well, are you? i sure am. i'm really digging "little cream soda." a LOT. i also dig actual cream soda a lot...anyway, the whole thing is great. being 1/2 scottish ("the good half," as my scottish mom says), i like that "st. andrews" song. i think my mom would even like that song. i like "rag and bone," too. and "catch hell blues!!!!" oh yes. and "effect and cause." that is one catchy diddy, kind of reminds me of their version of "rated x." damn, i love it all. but i just listened to "effect and cause" 3 times in a row, so...there you go. oh, how i love the white stripes!!

i have the weirdest sleeping habits ever. i am exactly like my mother and grandmother, in that they were both famous for waking up at insane hours, like 4 a.m., and just being totally raring to go with very little sleep. last night i fell asleep at midnight and woke up before 5 and i'm totally fine, not tired at all. some nights, i can't sleep at all. i have gone to work on 2 hours of sleep more than once. i don't mind waking up early on the weekends, though. it's nice to enjoy the sunrise and the quiet morning. halfway through the day, though, i'll probably crash out for a while.

i don't think this qualifies as insomnia, although sometimes the not sleeping thing starts to get to me. once, i was up for 3 days when i was around 21 years old. i just could NOT sleep, and i was crazy exhausted. i will never forget it, i was out of my mind. what turned me around was i went to lunch with 2 friends at an italian restaurant and we drank an insane amount of wine and i went home and passed out for like 14 hours. i think my mom thought i was dead, i remember she kept checking on me.

yes, i'm talking about spam again. how odd! today was art on the avenue, which is an annual street fair-type thing. it was okay. the past few years i have sold jewelry at this thing because i lived right on "the avenue", so this year it was nice to just walk around and hang out. the highlight of the day was the spam-mobile, where they gave out little spam recipe books, spam magnets, and, yes, free samples of spam. i wasn't going to partake, but the guy in the spam-mobile convinced me. he actually said, "don't fear the spam!!!" so really, what could i do? i said to him, "but i don't like spam!!" in my best monty python voice, and he just stared blankly at me. either he had no idea what i was talking about, or he hears that 200 times a day and just can't take it anymore. not sure which. at any rate, it was only a teeny piece, and it was made on a george foreman grill. and it wasn't bad!

my mom used to make spam all the time. spam and eggs, spamburgers, you name it. she'd chop it up and put it in salads, she'd fry it in a pan, make a mean grilled cheese and spam sammich, she'd make generic egg mcmuffins with it. didn't moms of the 70's give a hoot about nutrition?! i mean, come on, now. check out the ingredients of spam:

Water (to help in mixing)

oh, no. no no no no no.

this sopranos finale just won't die. it's so awesome. chris and i watched part of "the blue comet" and then parts of "made in america" after a long night of drinking last night, because we couldn't seem to agree on if butchie was completely cool with what went down with phil, or what. as much as people try to say that tony was shot...i just don't know. it's totally possible, and was filmed and edited in such a way that it would make sense...sort of. and it's what i was initially convinced of. the only thing missing is motive. who would order the hit, and why? there are no clues supporting that...at least none that i picked up on. i think the theory that david chase whacked the audience makes more sense. the same line people are connecting to the shooting theory ("you don't even know what hits you" or whatever it is, with tony and bobby in the boat) could be attributed to the end of the show. none of us knew what hit us. bam. but what's with all this talk of the alternate endings? the guy who plays agent harris said that he saw one of the other endings where member's only guy definitely advances on tony. and peter bogdonovich (who plays melfi's shrink) says he filmed a scene for the final episode where he was comforting a "bereaved" dr. melfi. but there were probably just several scenarios filmed so no one would know what to make of any of it, and nothing could leak out because know one really knew. well, steve perry knew. isn't he special.

and THAT is the last time i will talk about "the sopranos." probably.

those are very odd and random last words. and i'm not saying they were tony's literal last words (were they? who knows!!), but the last words for us to hear from him. i love it.

i also think it's funny that i mentioned that we were having a thunderstorm, and i was praying that the cable didn't go out during the episode. and everyone on earth thought their cable went out. heh.

this is my last sopranos post, i promise. i'm just getting such a kick out of all the dissection of this final scene, and how genius people think it is, or how livid and betrayed people are feeling by it. if the final scene wasn't so ambiguous, no one would be talking about it as much as they are.

and i will forever associate this crappy journey song with "sopranos." perhaps now i won't groan or change the station when i hear this song come on...i'll think of this amazing show.

and now i'm pretty sure he didn't get shot at all. after much discussion with chris and much reading of message boards and articles, i think it's just over. the whole end scene was to mess with us, and to illustrate that everyone looks shady in tony's eyes. he constantly looks over his shoulder, wondering if this guy's gonna hit him, or that guy. grey jacket guy doesn't come out of the bathroom and kill tony; no way. we just don't know. we will never know. but for now, all is well in the soprano family (and Family). AJ is now involved with the family (working for little carmine), meadow's gonna be a lawyer for the mob, carmella will continue to have long crazy nails and a benz and build her little houses. as this article states, our glimpse into their lives is over.

but wait...am i wrong?

sorry to get all geeky fangirl on everybody. i just think i am gonna have a hard time letting go of this show. it's been 7 years!! i was devastated at the end of "six feet under;" i cried for like an hour. but this ending is way, WAY better. surely more artistic and mind-effing.

now that i've had time to recover from the shock, it was just wonderful and perfect. this was probably the most brilliant show on tv.

okay, did tony get shot? wow. there has never been an episode where there was NO music over the ending credits, and why else would it end so abruptly like that? just black, silence, nothing. and in the last episode, they flashed back to tony and bobby in the boat (which actually happened several episodes prior), talking about getting shot, how it's just sudden and abrupt and you don't know what hit you ("you're there and then you're not" or something to that effect---which is exactly how bobby died). the end credits music was always completely tied in to what what going on, and the music was at times obscure and always chosen with care. maybe he got shot in the back of the head, by that guy who was sitting at the counter, looked at tony TWICE, went to the bathroom, and then came out and shot him as tony looked up to see meadow coming through the door (although that is very "godfather..." was the gun taped behind one of those old toilets with the chain thing?)...

maybe he got shot by that dude at the jukebox...was he reaching for a quarter, or his gun? or just putting his hand in his pocket?

but then again, who would want/need to whack tony? how would anyone know he was there? he made the peace with the brooklyn family...everything was even steven. there would be no specific reason for that to happen.

the lyrics to "don't stop believin" matched up to what was going on in the scene..."just a small town girl, livin' in a lonely world" (cue carmella), "just a city boy" (tony), "streetlight" (we see a streetlight when meadow runs across the street to the diner), and the last line is "don't stop..." BLACK. not even fade to black...just sudden black. why??? it's not possible that it was for no good reason. everything on this show had DAMN good reason.

see, this is exactly what david chase wants. i KNOW we're not supposed to know, and people are going to be talking about this and watching it over and over to try to figure it out. but there's just no way. at first i was pissed off at this episode. now i'm realizing that it's pretty brilliant. so, either hey, life goes on, carm and the kids are all doing good, tony made it out of that scary situation alive and well, he's still evil, whatever...or he died in his onion rings.

now. look at those last 2 lines. watching this scene, we questioned every single person that came into that diner. every one had potential to kill tony. we didn't trust any of them. and that's what it's like to be tony. so maybe he lived. he just lived, kept on going. maybe the sudden black and silence meant nothing.
